Cardio Tennis
Cardio Tennis is a fun, social, group tennis-fitness program for people of all ages and abilities. It’s more about getting a great, high-energy workout than pure tennis technique. Constant movement is the focus as participants are guided through a series of fun and heart-pumping drills that cater for all abilities and fitness level.
The best thing about Cardio Tennis is that you do not have to be good at tennis to get involved. In fact, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before. Low-compression tennis balls promote immediate success, especially for beginners, because they travel at a lower speed making it easier to strike the ball. Your coach is trained to mix up the activities to cater for all skill levels, so while it’s a great for beginners, more experienced tennis players will also have a great time
When it comes to calories, it’s simple: burn more calories than you consume and you will lose weight and feel great. In the modern time-poor world, it can be hard to keep fit, let alone find a program that is fun and energising. In a 60-minute Cardio Tennis workout, women can burn up to 500 calories per workout and men up to 800. If you do regular Cardio Tennis workouts, you’ll feel better and your hand-eye coordination, tennis skill and fitness level will also benefit.

New programs begin each school term with sessions lasting for 30–60 minutes depending on the children’s level and as kids progress through each stage their confidence grows along with their skills as they master each ball and court.
With ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, kids learn to play tennis the right way and develop at their own pace. Developed by Tennis Australia, ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is the perfect fit for kids.
The SC Coaching ANZ Hot Shots program runs in line with the 4 school terms through the year with classes offered on a number of days after school hours. The program term dates are as follows:

What is ANZ Tennis Hot Shots
High Performance ANZ Hot Shots
Courts & Equipment
With ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, the courts and equipment are smaller, and the balls don’t bounce as high – perfect for new players. And you don’t need a tennis court to play! Children can enjoy ANZ Tennis Hot Shots with their friends or family at home or school– all you need is a flat surface.
Red, orange and green low-compression balls don’t bounce as high as a yellow ball, making them easier for children to hit. Watch these animations to find out why the red, orange and green balls are perfect for developing players
The courts are smaller too, which makes them easier for kids to play on. It also helps them develop realistic footwork patterns and encourages them to use all parts of the court. And the great thing is you don’t need a tennis court – you can play on any flat hard surface!
Smaller portable nets are used during the Red Stage on the red courts, come in sizes of 3 and 6 metres.
During the Orange and Green stages, the standard net is used, but it can be lowered depending on the players’ ability.
Picking the right tennis racquet is crucial – if it’s too heavy or the wrong size the child will have trouble swinging the racquet and it could lead to injury. Your child should be able to hold the racquet comfortably when their arm is extended and be able to swing the racquet easily. If in doubt speak to Simon and he will make sure your child is using the correct racquet size.
The Three Stages
ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is divided into 3 stages:
- Red Stage (ages 5-8)
- Orange (ages 8-10)
- Green (ages 9+)
There is also an optional Launch Pad stage for young players aged between three and five-years-old. Children progress from one stage to the next when they are ready. This ensures that children learn at their pace and will ultimately make the transition to using a yellow ball on a full-size court when they are fully prepared.
The diagram below outlines the three Stages of Development.
Why Hot Shots
For decades, soccer, basketball, netball, Australian Rules, cricket and many other sports introduced children to their sports through the use of smaller equipment and a reduced playing area.
Meanwhile, children learning to play tennis were doing so with the same size racquet an adult would use, while being expected to cover a full-size court the way professionals do.
Tennis Hot Shots – the fun and easy way to learn how to serve, rally and score. In the past few years more than 120 nations have adopted modified tennis programs, including all four Grand Slam countries.
SC Coaching & ANZ Hot Shots in your School
Why not introduce ANZ Hot Shots through SC Coaching into your school as a part of your PE or Sports program. SC coaching will come to your school and supply all the equipment required for your students to participate in the ANZ Hot Shots program. Contact us today to find out more information.
